Next weekend I’m taking some family photos in a mansion with high ceilings. I’m not too worried about it except for one of them. They want a group shot with about 25 people.
Equipment I have available:
Canon EOS 5D Mark III
External flash Canon 580 EXII,
4 Yongnuo YN-560 II
4 light stands
2 black and white 43″ umbrellas
2 33″ translucent white umbrellas.
There is a staircase that I may or may not use for this. My plan so far is to use a step stool to stand on and a tripod. (maybe not step stool if I use the staircase) Use my largest umbrella with one of the Yongnuo flashes on a light stand about 5-6 feet up. Set that up behind me facing down at a 45-degree angle on to my subjects. I feel I need a fill flash in front of them? I maybe all off on this whole thing. What do you guys think?

I am interested in your tips and topics. If you have any experiences in shooting skateboarders, skaters, car drifting or so. please share with me your experiences with the camera and settings.

I’m trying to prepare some pictures for text, but it can be difficult to make the text clear and sharp. The text should be white. Do you have any tricks for preparing an image for text? (Inkscape)

I love your “tag line” to get out there and take some damn photo’s, but that’s where I’m struggling. You see while I’m not a professional at anything I usually do pretty well at what I set my mind to…. For some reason, I am scared to take pictures. what a silly thing eh… Logically I know that the worst thing that can happen is that I need to clean off my memory card but i’m just terribly afraid of failure here for some reason.
Wondering if you ever felt the same way, and if so what did you do to solve?
CRITIQUES
I am a brand new photographer, very, VERY new. Have always had an interest in photography, but have never taken it up until recently. The camera I am using is the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 with the 18-55mm kit lens. The attached photo is one of a sunflower I took and would like to have critiqued. I am looking at more of getting into Nature/Wildlife/Macro (nature, flowers and such).

So here is my submission. It was shot in July 2015 at around 6am when the sun started to come up. It was shot with my Nikon D810 and my Nikkor 14-24 f2.8. I shot this at f22, .4 seconds, and ISO 100. It was shot at 19mm. I edited it in Lightroom very lightly.
