In our second tip, we talked about the importance of taking LOTS of photos to really improve your photography, and it’s easy for us to say, “Get out there and take some damn photos!”, but sometimes you need a bit of motivation or direction to help you actually do that.

If you’re someone who needs that, the solution is to give yourself a photography challenge.

But, in order to be successful, your challenge has to be realistic, so here are the things to consider when developing your photography challenge.

First, the subject or theme. Whatever it is pick something that will help keep you motivated and shooting!

Second, the frequency.

This one is probably the most important, because you want to shoot as much as possible, but you have to be realistic, so pick a frequency that you can realistically commit to. Be it daily, every other day, weekly, biweekly, or monthly.

And as you get into your challenge, be ready to adapt your frequency as well. This is your challenge, so you can adapt it as you see fit.

Third, sharing.

You don’t have to share your challenge photos, but sharing them with a community of photographers is a great way to get feedback and to keep yourself accountable to your challenge.

Finally, the duration. Again, there is no right answer, but consider what is best for you. For some it will be a daily challenge for a month. For some a weekly challenge for a year.

No matter how you structure it, setting yourself up with a photography challenge will most definitely help you get out there and take some damn photos, so what are you waiting for?
